Chai flavoured Semolina Yogurt Cake

There’s nothing quite like baking up a Taystee cake for family and friends to enjoy together. Treat your loved ones to this delightful recipe by Fareedha Khan. It’s so easy to bake you can get the kids to join the baking fun too. Enjoy it freshly baked or chilled.
Cake ingredients:
  • Half a cup white sugar
  • 1 ½ cup plain yogurt
  • Half a cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup Taystee Wheat
  • 1 ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1/4 ground cloves
  • 3 tsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • Half tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
Syrup ingredients:
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • Half tbsp lemon juice (optional)
  1. Preheat your oven to 177°C.
  2. Lightly grease a baking tray (20 cm x 20 cm) with cooking spray or lightly rub with cooking oil.
  3. To make the syrup, use a small saucepan and add the water and white sugar. Bring it to boil over medium-high heat and boil for 1-minute to fully dissolve the sugar. Remove from heat and stir in lemon juice (if using) and set aside to cool completely.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and white sugar until the sugar dissolves.
  5. Add yogurt and vegetable oil and whisk again until evenly combined.
  6. Next, add Taystee Wheat, ground cardamom, ground cinnamon, ground cloves, all-purpose flour, vanilla extract, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Stir the mixture just until everything is combined (do not overmix) and pour the batter into your greased baking tray.
  7. Place your baking tray with the cake batter into the oven and bake for 30 – 34 minutes or until the center of the cake is set and the edges are golden brown and start to pull away from the sides. Note: Gently press on the cake in the center to be sure that it has cooked all the way through – it should have a springy but firm texture.
  8. Remove the cake from the oven and slowly pour the syrup evenly over the cake’s surface.
  9. Let the cake cool completely before slicing and serve with vanilla ice cream or fresh cream. Alternatively, you can also serve the cake chilled. P.S. You can store the cake in your refrigerator for up to 3 days to enjoy for later.
